In 1958, Oliver introduced a three-number sequence with the 880 tractor. The new line was created with a squared-off appearance, retaining the green body and replacing previous models’ yellow and red highlights with a green-tinged Clover White for grills and wheels. The 880 featured transmission improvements, as well as hitch and accessory refinements. The 880 was produced until 1963, with row-crop, standard-axle Wheatland and high-crop models. Toward the end of production, the grill was changed from a horizontal-slat design to the cast iron checkerboard.

The Oliver 490 Manure Spreader was built for heavy loads-up to 140-bushels and engineered for long hauls. The Oliver spreader was a practical choice for farmers with large livestock to accommodate daily spreading needs. Design with a single-beater, 14 aggressive paddles allowing for hoof-packed straw-laced chunks to easily be shredded and spread in a fine pattern over a wide swath.

The wood box design was created to extended the life span of the spreader. Its ship-lap floor and tongue-and-grove sides were made of select lumber, deep-treated with a penetrating preservative to resist rot and manure acids, reduce warp-age, and shrinkage. With a low-loading height of less than four feet, this spreader was easy to manage and maneuver in tight quarters.
